The “What’s the Point?” campaign was launched on Tuesday July 5th, 2005 at the College of North East London. The event gathered different communities voluntary, faith, business, education and statutory sectors in London and included a significant youth presence. The Keynote speaker was the Rt. Hon. Hazel Blears MP (Minister of State for Policing, Security and Community Safety) who spoke about young people needing encouragement through support, engagement, education and prevention. The “What’s the Point?” information packs are currently being distributed to schools and organisations around London with the intention of reaching as many youths as possible.
The “What’s the Point?” campaign is a unique project which has been organised by the Peace Alliance in partnership with the Metropolitan Police ‘Operation Blunt’ as a response to the rise in knife crime incidents in London. The campaign is targeted at youths between the ages of 11-19 and consists of informative comic books, glow-in-the dark wristbands, publicity campaigns, presentations to young people and a website which includes information about knife crime, initiatives, opinions and activities for young people.
